*CONTEST* *CONTEST* *CONTEST*

This contest will end on August 6th. The winner will be announced shortly after that date and will win a Sicilian surprise packet.
You must guess the amount of pasta we have in my house on today's date in pounds. We buy pasta in 1000g and 500g packages.
Anyone can guess but only one guess per person. If you have ten people in your house they all can have one guess.
In case of a tie there will be a run off. Guess away!

OK, the first number that popped into my head was 36, but then when I looked around my house, I realized, that's actually not *that* much pasta when you're talking about each bag being 1 or 2 pounds.

So I'm going with 63.

Buon appetito!

Oh I am going with a much higher number -- 152. I figure there is always more than you expect and heck, you are having a contest, so it must be a lot.

I have been away a bit, Sharon, still catching up with my reading. My apologies for being away. Loved "Midnight in Sicily," especially the cover -- a wonderful photograph and type/design.

Ooooh! A Sicilian surprise packet! I'll guess 3.5 lbs!

You can't have unlimited storage space in your kitchen, and pasta is bulky. My guess is 31.

My husband says 27.

My son says 42.

Please say that one of us is right? :)

Thanks for entering the contest....

Yes...small house but this is the land of *spaghetti lips* as one of my kids used to say.

sognatrice..You might want to play those numbers.

GT: Lucky you to get away.

Cindy-co: Can't believe you remember the doghouse!

lacubanagringa..I got the contest idea from you.

annika..have to wait till the contest is over. I am happy that your whole family is guessing.

Joe and Kathie...Tennis racket pasta...were the meataballs included?

DM...you are grooving!..not dithering.

Matthew..Hi son...love to you!

PS: There are absolutely no hints in this reply.

Well, let me think in terms of rice. We usually have one 25 lb. bag that's opened and being used, and another 25 lb. bag in waiting. Of course, rice is much smaller, but I'm going with 37 1/2 lbs, equal to a bag and 1/2 of rice that we would have.

What a wide range of answers! In my kitchen we usually have about seven or so 500 gr. bags on hand, so if that's the average I'm coming from, I'm assuming you must have more... but anything over 30 pounds to me sounds like a restaurant. I'll go with 15...?

PS, thanks for the post on the Late Show contest... don't know if you saw but I just recently won it too (thanks to finding out about it from your blog and seeing that you had won, it was good encouragement)! We Italy expats are quite a witty bunch, no?

Ok, Sharon, I'll go with 8 pounds unless you've got it hidden around the house. How much pasta can 2 people eat?

Sharon said...

Keep those guesses coming...

I didn't say we were eating it...just that we have it!

mmmm.... if you are anything like me you would have about 24 and a half different varieties with about 70 grams in each (and being the tight-arse I won' chuck it!) ummm I'd approximate 11.7 kilos (sorry I know that calculation won't appease the techie readers but I was never good at maths)

megan says .... 13 pounds
jessica says .. 18 pounds

can the dogs guess???
